      The article is excerpted from the Report on the Study of the History of American Science Popularization．The term Popular Science appeared around the mid of 19th century．The exact date of its existence still needs further investigation，though．The notion of popular science apparently has close relation with the professionalism and specialization of science．Public Understanding of science and science communication became popular in 1980s，but they also derived from an earlier period．
