      This article explores the history of the translation of popular science books in three stages as the author defined，the translations the missionaries did as they tried to introduce science and technology of the West to the governments in Ming and Qing dynasties (16—19centuries)，translations developed by Chinese scientists and intellectuals by journals and big events as Einstein's trip to China and，the new boom of translation of books diversified in scientific culture from 1990's through to today．
