      In conformity with the definition of natural history museums，this article briefly introduces the development of natural history museums worldwide and the history and status quo of natural history museums in China．The author puts emphasis on the success of Chinese natural history museums in communicating natural history and propagandizing nature protection，analyzes the reasons behind and the experience there derives，and finally brings forward his own viewpoints on existing problems and the direction that natural history museums should follow．
